The Castle is amazing. The history, the buildings, and the views are all so cool. I chose to get the printed guide (so I could better stay present with the experience) and stop and read and look and read and to read after I left. It worked for me.
For complete disclosure: lots of stairs, climbing, cobblestones, etc so you should wear sturdy shoes and be prepared that you might not get to everything.
The line to view the crown jewels was long, but it moved quickly (and, of course, I was able to read my guide while waiting).
Don't just take pictures of the Castle from the street--go explore it.

Wij hebben hier een tour gedaan, geleid door Craig. Die deed het erg goed. Was leuk om wat meer info te krijgen over de geschiedenis van het kasteel, Edinburgh en Schotland.

Nog twee tips, ga niet op een zondag als het even kan. Bij ons was het ontzettend druk. En koop je tickets online.

10:00 am - 10:30 am is crowded. Queue everywhere. Slopes are quite steep and wobbly for prams and wheelchairs. One of those attractions to visit just once and not again

La plus grosse déception de notre séjour à Edimbourg. Seule la vue sur la ville vaut le coup d'œil, et cela ne vaut pas 42 € par personne, hors audio guide. Il n'existe pas de visite guidée en français, sachez-le. L'intérieur est aménagé de mauvaises et poussiéreuses reconstitutions, que l'on doit suivre dans le noir, en file continue, une horreur ! Un vrai piège à touristes dans lequel nous sommes tombés hélas !
Nous vous conseillons de privilégier la visite du château de holyrood, lieu vivant et magnifiquement conservé.

Onestamente non merita il prezzo. Internamente ha di bello solo la vista sulla città. È ben tenuto ma si possono visitare solo le prigioni, un paio di musei bellici, una cappella e la stanza principale, niente delle sale reali.

Ce n'est clairement pas le château préféré de notre séjour !
Visité le vendredi 19 avril matin, après avoir passé une semaine à travers l'Ecosse, cette visite a été plus subie qu'appréciée car trop de monde, trop de touristes, trop les uns sur les autres dans les intérieurs. Nous n'avons pas pu profiter de ce lieu comme nous l'aurions aimé...
Nous avons trouvé l'audio-guide trop ennuyeux, trop historique et pas assez ludique, notamment pour les enfants qui s'en sont vite lassé. Le château reste intéressant et chargé d'Histoire, et offre de beaux panoramas sur la ville.

Edinburgh Castle is a must-see in Scotland. It is rather crowded even in April. Go for a guided tour. There is the largest canon in UK there, and when you get to the top you can take panaromic post-card perfect photographs of Edinburgh, especially when we were blessed with sunshine. It does get windy and chilly so bring along your jacket please. It is cold in the castle which explains why it has been eons since a King slept in this castle. It is a gentle 10 mins walk uphill, but you can pay for a ride uphill or downhill.

C'est plus le musée de la guerre que du château royale..
Faut pas être claustrophobe...
Sinon intéressant malgré le manque crucial de guide papier dans plusieurs langues...

Visite très intéressante, notamment la prison entièrement reconstituée.
Plusieurs musées en son sein.
Possibilité d'utiliser un audioguide ou d'acheter le guide officiel très bien fait et que l'on récupère à la boutique.

Great castle, but we went on a cold, windy day, make sure you dress warm, which we did, thank goodness. Amazing views and great information given, no need for a tour guide tbh.

It was an amazing visit. Was there for the firing of the gun. The whole place is full of interesting tales and artefacts , would definitely recommend a visit. Book tickets online. Loads for kids to see

Un magnifique château à découvrir lors de la période de 12h pour ne pas rater le fameux coup de canon de 13h !
Cependant, je trouve le prix d'entrée assez chère, 23€ environ.

Un château à visiter impérativement à Edimbourg.
Très bien entrenu, avec une vue imprenable sur toute la ville.

Un incontournable

On ne peut pas visiter Edimbourg sans passer par son château. Les audioguides sont très bien fait, l'histoire y est racontée de façon fluide. Comptez 3h pour avoir le temps de tout faire, voire de prendre un petit café. Ne manquez pas le coup de canon de 13h, tradition perpétuée tous les jours !

La visite qu'il ne faut pas manquer à Edinburgh.
Forteresse sur les hauteurs de la ville avec beaucoup de salles et de musées à visiter. Prévoir 3 heures pour la visite. Entrée un peu chère : prendre un pass pour la rentabiliser si vous visitez d'autres sites en Ecosse
