My wife and I, along with our kids, made a last-minute decision to spend our spring break in Miami. Looking for a place to stay, we stumbled upon this hotel through the Marriott app. What a colossal mistake that turned out to be!
As a seasoned traveler, I understand the concept of hotel availability and the occasional wait for a room. So, when I kindly informed the hotel a day prior about our 11 a.m. arrival, I expected at least some effort to accommodate us. Little did I know, we were in for a nightmare.
Upon arrival at 11 a.m., we were met with the unsurprising news that our room wasn't ready. Fine, we thought, and decided to make the best of it by spending some time at the pool. "We'll call you when it's ready," they said with forced politeness.
After two long hours, our kids were hungry and tired, so we checked back in at the lobby. To our dismay, the room was still not prepared. Another hour and a half passed, during which we tried to kill time with lunch, but our patience was wearing thin.
Finally, at 2:45 p.m., we had had enough. Exhausted kids, weary parents, and no room in sight. I approached the desk, and the same receptionist, with her plastic smile, hurried off to get the manager. When he appeared, it was clear he was annoyed at being bothered.
"Sir, your room is still not ready. It's a larger room with two beds, and the current occupants have requested a late checkout. Check-in time is 4:00 p.m.," he recited mechanically, without a hint of empathy. I wish I had noted his name for this review.
We were finally ushered into our room at 3:45 p.m., a whopping four hours after our scheduled arrival. And what a room it was - apparently, one of the only two rooms in the entire hotel with two beds. The irony? It was a handicap room, situated all the way down the hallway on the sixth floor (Room 673). Imagine the frustration of a genuinely handicapped person making that trek!
The disappointments didn't end there. The shower was a pitiful trickle, the Wi-Fi connection was spotty at best, and the room layout was nonsensical.
To add insult to injury, when we requested some complimentary waters due to our parched state, the response was astonishing: "If you could come down to the lobby to get them, it would really help us out. We're quite busy right now." Unbelievable.
In a last-ditch effort to salvage some comfort, I asked for a late checkout, given my Marriott status allows for at least a 2:00 p.m. departure. Unsurprisingly, they could only manage a 12:00 p.m. checkout.
In conclusion, if you're a family or a group of more than two, steer clear of this place. The service is abysmal, the amenities are lacking, and there are far superior options just a few blocks away.
If you're here to party and don't mind subpar service, perhaps it's suitable. But for families seeking a relaxing stay? Avoid this place like the plague. It's appalling that Marriott would affiliate with such a disorganized and dysfunctional hotel.
